Description

Ok so this is probably my last artwork for 2011 and a way to take a brand new start for the upcoming year : I do so many commissionned artworks that I really miss doing art for myself and art that I find beautiful. Indeed working for metal bands implies doing darker and darker stuff all the time, stuff that isn't my style, etc...
So I will do more personal artwork and will go on practising digital painting in my pictures (on this one hair is completely repainted).
Made with my brand new Intuos 4 :)

Model is the gorgeous ~Luria-XXII who sent me a note ages ago to propose me to work with her image (thanks for print permission) ;)

Thanks for watching

Hi! Your art is so stunning that I don't really feel fit to critique it, but I also know that it's frustrating to request critiques and not get them. So, bear with me.

First of all . . . WOW. You've used color flawlessly and with just the right amount of intensity. This effect is augmented with a good use of light and shadow. It's great that you've lit the hair around her face, which gives her a softer, more ethereal look. The light is coming from our right side of the image (her left), so the left (her right) side is shaded appropriately.

My only critique-- and it's more a question than a critique, really-- is, shouldn't the hourglass be lit just a little bit more? Being this dark makes the little bird harder to see and may not be realistic given the light coming from the right. On the other hand, if it is supposed to be in the shadows of her hair and hand, perhaps it is fine the way it is. Also, a tiny bit more light could make the birds near her hair stand out a bit more.

I like the fact that the glow around her is not overdone. You've created an atmosphere that is mysterious and alluring, and it leaves the reader eager to know more about her story.

As far as painting the hair, I am NOT a great hair painter, but I think it looks good. I think the key is to use a lot of layers and gradually add highlights where appropriate, but that's just my opinion.

What I really like about your digital painting is that it is seamless, blending flawlessly into the stock.

Overall a truly, truly gorgeous piece. It's so nice to see this side of you.

Hope you have a wonderful New Year.
